My way to the ottoman empire.
Since I to remind can applied itself my interest of history. Compelled me also as a young person to a journey to Turkey in the year 1976. Afterwards the ottoman empire began to become my
passion. Since I am born in Freiburg, me came there university correctly includ- ing library during my autodidactical knowledge appropriation straight. At the beginning of my search I devoured the works of Hammer,
Babinger, Jorga and above all the row "ottoman historical writers". Then my interest widened to the Islam. I read the works of
Brockelmann, Endress, Paret and Ende, in order to call only some important authors.
Center of the 80 years I visited each year Turkey, in order to experience the scenes of history and to photograph the special structural achievements in the ottoman empire. Besides I
visited lectures at the university in Freiburg, with Professor Ende, Professor Mueller and to the dearest with Professor Josef Matuz, (see for this: my web
page Matuz as memory of its 10 year old day of death) that surely crucially my view of ottoman history affected. Later, than I studied was added lectures at the University of Zürich with Mrs. Professor Karamuk and then at the University of Konstanz with Professor Göttmann. Straight ones in Konstanz I learned my basic knowledge for historians and my emphasis ottoman history turned to its influence on our own history.
"The influence of the Turk danger on the empire institutions in 16 Jh.". Thus my first work in Konstanz was called. This new, specific view of the influence of the ottoman empire created extraordinarily important new viewpoints for me. Today am I the firm opinion that is still necessary in Germany an immeasurable pouring research straight in this range, however from the unbelievably numerous literature over the empiredays and the influence of the taxation in the empire area for more than five centuries.
Meanwhile I have a large number of literature and pictorial material
(dia. collection) over the ottoman empire and connected with it closely the research ranges islam science and byzantinistic. I have nearly all museums in Europe, Turkey and North Africa visited always on the search for exhibits over the ottoman empire.
This homepage
tries to be now expression of mine since more than 25 year old search for answers to the history of an Islamic large empire, which regards still many answers ready as us. I would like to have also all prospective customer, student and all those the friends to concern itself with the ottoman empire or interests show to invite to use this platform as exchange. Like this side will continue to develop depends reliably on this commitment and information exchange.
